Man held in stab of kid-welfare worker
A grumpy Brooklyn grandpa stabbed a Cantonese translator during a child welfare agency check on his supposedly foul-smelling grandson, authorities said Friday.
Anna Yuen, a translator contracted to work with the Administration for Children’s Services, underwent a pair of surgeries for a severe puncture wound to her back after the routine Sunset Park visit turned violent.
She was recovering at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn after the Thursday evening stabbing by 61-yearold Feng Quanyi, who lashed out when Yuen asked about reports of the 8year-old showing up for school in filthy clothes, police said.
Police and EMS were on the scene quickly to treat Yuen, 55, of Queens, and cuff the grandfather at the residence on 52nd St. near Fifth Ave. Quanyi was led away by police and held overnight pending a Brooklyn court appearance for the 8 p.m. stabbing.
Quanyi also shared the apartment with his 7-year-old granddaughter. He was charged with assault and tampering with physical evidence.
Yuen was working for Accurate Communication, which provides translators for New York agencies. A call to the business for comment Friday was not returned.
Officials from the ACS and the NYPD returned to the apartment Friday to assess the condition of the two kids and determine what additional action was necessary, sources said. The children were not removed from the home pending a decision from investigators.
