Trump is hit for vet diss
President Trump faced a deluge of criticism Saturday after blaming bad weather for skipping out on a scheduled visit to a French cemetery to honor U.S. soldiers killed in World War I.
The commander-in-chief and First Lady Melania Trump were meant to attend a ceremony at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, about 50 miles outside Paris, but light rains prevented their helicopter from taking off, the White House announced.
The cancellation prompted widespread condemnation from officials and critics, with some complaining Trump “dishonored” the fallen servicemen.
Nicholas Soames, a British member of Parliament and a grandson of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, blasted Trump for not attending the commemoration. “They died with their face to the foe and that pathetic inadequate @realDonaldTrump couldn't even defy the weather to pay his respects to the Fallen,” he tweeted.
Ben Rhodes, former President Barack Obama's deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, said a little light mist was no excuse for backing out. “I helped plan all of President Obama's trips for 8 years,” he tweeted. “There is always a rain option. Always.”
