Orange Co. elephant OK after ramble

These troopers faced a massive challenge — but showed they were up to the tusk … er, task.

After an 8,000-pound elephant wandered away from her animal sanctuary Sunday, state troopers in Orange County helped escort her home.

“Never a dull moment in Troop F,” the New York State Police wrote in a Facebook post with photos of the elephant named Fripha.

The 44year-old elephant (inset) from Vietnam was found in Westtown — about 70 miles northwest of Manhattan — near the Sanctuary of Animals.

“She was burned by napalm during the war. She wandered away from an animal sanctuary and was escorted back home by troopers and workers from the sanctuary,” the state police wrote.

State police public information officer Steven Nevel told ABC News that troopers received a call about the wandering elephant about 11:35 p.m. on Sunday.

Photos captured the elephant strolling in the street prior to Sgt. Dave Scott and another trooper escorting her home.

Sanctuary staff was notified once Fripha was led to to her home across the road.

“They came out and spoke to the elephant like someone would talk to their dog,” Nevel told ABC News. “They told her to turn around and head back home, and she started heading back home.”
