Marvel boss got his gun permit — & I got film tix: dirty ex-cop

- BY STEPHEN REX BROWN

Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter had his hard-to-get New York City gun permit renewed by a crooked cop who testified Wednesday he received tickets to red-carpet superhero movie premieres.

Ex-NYPD Sgt. David Villanueva, who has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes while working in the department’s scandal-scarred License Division, said under oath that he’d received tickets to the movie premieres from Perlmutter’s assistant, Marisol Garcia.

He described Garcia as a friend and did not say he spoke directly with Perlmutter.

The reclusive Marvel executive is a prominent supporter of President Trump who has been described as a “shadow ruler” of the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has not been charged with any crimes.

“So you went to six premieres for Marvel Comics, right?” defense attorney John Meringolo asked.

“Correct,” Villanueva replied.

“Mr. Perlmutter, you got his renewal, right?” Meringolo asked.

“Correct,” Villanueva answered.

Villanueva (photo) confirmed that Garcia had mailed him Perlmutter’s renewal application directly and that he’d helped with the permit. Many of the premieres were in Los Angeles, he said.

He took the stand during the trial of Brooklyn businessman Jeremy Reichberg and Deputy Inspector James Grant. Villanueva testified that he expedited a gun permit for Reichberg at the behest of Grant in 2013.

Meringolo, who is representing Grant, tried to get Villanueva to admit that other celebrities got special treatment in the License Division, too.

Villanueva confirmed that the pop singer Marc Anthony and former Mets third baseman David Wright both had gun permits, but did not say either got VIP treatment.

Villanueva has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes and lying to the feds and is cooperating with authorities.

In separate testimony in Manhattan Federal Court, the shady ex-cop said that from roughly 2005 to 2016 he accepted bribes from four gun license brokers seeking expedited permits they wouldn’t typically receive.

Villanueva said that one of the the bribers he dealt with was cigar store owner and police buff Frank Soohoo. He treated Villanueva to fancy sushi dinners and vacations to the Bahamas, Dominican Republic and other destinations, the former sergeant said.

Soohoo also threw parties with prostitutes for corrupt cops in the License Division, Villanueva testified. Other cops charged with accepting bribes — Lieutenant Paul Dean, Officer Richard Ochetal and Officer Robert Espinel — also attended the parties, Villanueva said.

“Were those prostitutes made available to all of you?” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Ravener asked.

“Yes they were,” Villanueva replied.

Other goodies he received included Broadway tickets, limousine rides and fancy watches, he said.

In 2013, Grant boasted that one day he would be running the License Division, Villanueva recalled.

“It was going to be crazy and I didn’t want to retire,” Villanueva recalled Grant saying.

Soohoo pleaded guilty in October 2016 to showering cops with gifts.

Villanueva was fired from the NYPD that year and now works as a merchandiser for a snack company.
