Amazon hits cyber jackpot
Thanksgiving kicked off a weekend of good news for Amazon, which reported recordbreaking sales for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The online retail behemoth, which announced this month it would open a facility in Long Island City, Queens, said it sold more than 180 million items in the four days after Thanksgiving. Amazon cited Cyber Monday as its biggest sales day in its nearly 25-year history.
The company did not release dollar figures, but according to CBS, Friday and Monday alone netted nearly $10 billion. Possibly adding to sales in the Northeast was unseasonably cold weather, which made for complicated travel to brick-and-mortar outlets. Those businesses attracted more than 150 million visitors over the weekend, though conventional stores experienced a 1.7% dip on Black Friday.
