- BY GOLDENE BROWN

Officials are investigating the death of a woman and her baby daughter after the two were found dead outside their cabin in the Yukon in Northwest Canada.

The Yukon coroner’s office says the bodies of Valerie Theoret, 37, and her 10-month-old daughter Adele were discovered Monday by the woman’s husband, according to a release.

“It appears they had been out for a walk when the incident occurred,” Chief Coroner Heather Jones said.

Her husband, Gjermund Roesholt, says he was charged by a grizzly bear outside the family’s cabin near Einarson Lake, officials say.

Roesholt was prompted to shoot and kill the bear about 300 feet from the cabin — soon after he found his wife and daughter dead outside.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the coroner’s office will conduct an investigation into the deaths.

The family had been living in the remote area for the past three months.

Theoret (photo) was a French teacher at a local elementary school and was on maternity leave when the incident occurred, according to local reports.
