DEAL OR CANO DEAL!

- — Kristie Ackert

PROS l Eight-time All-Star, Cano would be a professional hitter with some pop in Mets lineup. l Hit .303/.374/.471 with 10 homers and 22 doubles through 348 plate appearances in 2018. Includes a .317/.363/.497 line upon returning from PED suspension. l Not a great 2B, but still better defensively than anything the Mets have there. l If the Mets can make the Mariners take Jay Bruce, it not only unloads the $28 million owed Bruce over the next two years, it frees up a logjam at right field and first base. CONS l Cano just turned 36 in October and his play will only decline with age. l Coming off a season in which he missed 80 games for PED suspension. As Mets know from experience with former closer Jenrry Mejia, if Cano is caught using PEDS again, he faces a 162game suspension. l When he left, former Yankee (and Met) hitting coach Kevin Long publiccommented ly that Cano lacked hustle and effort at times. l Mets have had history of failed attempts to bring in successful players later in careers (hello Mo Vaughn).
