Maye done for season as Jets place safety on IR

-

Jets safety Marcus Maye’s season is over after the Jets placed him on Injured Reserve due to shoulder and thumb injuries. The hard-hitting Maye was in and out of the lineup all year before the team opted to shelve him for good after he logged just six games.

Maye’s injuries are piling up. He capped his 2017 rookie campaign with an ankle injury in the season finale in Foxborough that required arthroscopic surgery. He missed the first three games this season due to a foot/ankle injury. He played the next three games only to break his thumb against the Colts in Week 6.

Maye had a pin placed in his surgically repaired thumb and missed only one game. He returned and played in pain for three more games before the shoulder and thumb ailments cut short his second year.

The former second-round pick finished with 34 tackles, 2 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble and one memorable 104-yard interception on the final play of a Week 5 win against the Broncos in which he was tackled just before he reached the end zone.

Defensive back Jeremy Clark was activated from the practice squad to take Maye’s roster spot.

Darryl Roberts is expected to play safety against the Titans on Sunday as he did last week.

TOUCHING FOUL: Patriots WR Cordarrelle Patterson was fined $13,369 for unsportsmanlike conduct for grabbing Henry Anderson’s private parts in the Jets’ loss last week.
