Cardi B is no-show at court
Three time V.M.A. winner Cardi B was M.I.A. for her court appearance in Queens Monday.
Her lawyer, Jeff Kern, blamed miscommunication for the no-show at her arraignment.
“As you can see, my client is not here today due to poor communication, poor coordination,” Kern said, arguing his client had a work-related commitment that day.
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper is charged with assault and reckless endangerment stemming from an August melee at Angels Strip Club, where sources said she threw a bottle and a hookah at a pair of bartenders, striking one of them and injuring that woman's foot and leg. Cardi believed one of the barkeeps had slept with her rapper husband Offset, according to TMZ.
Judge Sean Dunn extended Cardi an opportunity to check in by 9 a.m. Friday. He said that if the rapper fails to comply, a bench warrant will be issued.
Assistant District Attorney Ryan Nicolosi expected the 26year-old Bronx native to be in attendance for Monday's hearing, considering her appearance had already been rescheduled per an agreement reached by all parties involved on Oct. 22.
"They said this would be a good date where the defendant could return," Nicolisi said. “We have given six additional weeks and this defendant is still not here.”
After concluding Cardi isn't a flight risk, Dunn told her attorney it is paramount the rapper shows up for her next court appearance.
“I want you to convey to her that it's not acceptable that she's not here today,” the judge said.
“Thank you your honor, message received," Kern replied.
