Gov inauguration set for Ellis Island

- BY KENNETH LOVETT

ALBANY — After spending much of his reelection campaign trashing President Trump on issues like immigration, Gov. Cuomo announced Tuesday he will hold his third nauguration ceremony New Year’s Day on Ellis Island.

“In these stormy times, Ellis Island is an enduring symbol of who we are as a nation,” Cuomo said. “This historic gateway to America reminds us of the core values that built our state and our country, and it will serve as a fitting location to launch a new term fighting for New Yorkers and for the soul of this nation.”

Cuomo, who has been mentioned as a potential presidential candidate, has repeatedly said he will serve a full four-year third term as governor.

But he has also vowed that New York will continue to fight back against Trump.

“New York has always been a beacon of hope and opportunity, and today more than ever we are called upon to lead the way toward and set a progressive example for the rest of the country to follow,” Cuomo said Tuesday.

Cuomo in 2010 continued long-standing tradition by holding his inauguration in Albany, the state capital.

But with his father, former three-term Gov. Mario Cuomo gravely ill, Cuomo four years ago held ceremonies in New York City and Buffalo instead of Albany. Mario Cuomo died while Cuomo was giving his address in Buffalo.
