$2G help for a vandalized B’klyn church

- BY GRAHAM RAYMAN

A Brooklyn Catholic church’s prayers were answered Tuesday with a donation to repair statues smashed by a peebrained vandal.

Our Lady of Consolation church on Metropolitan Ave. near Berry St. in Williamsburg fell prey to an apparently drunken dolt who urinated on and broke a pair of angel statues early Sunday morning, police said.

On Tuesday, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and leaders from the Jewish, Muslim and Sikh communities gave the church $2,000 to fix the damage.

“The church has come under attack in this manner six times in the past eight years,” Adams said. “If someone paints a swastika or if someone says something that is anti-Muslim, those of us who are of other faiths should come to their aid. We should not stand silently by.”

The fact that there is an increase in hate crimes across the city is not lost on Adams.

“We’re not just seeing an increase and we cannot state that it’s just a phase that will go away,” he said. “It’s just the opposite, so we need to be proactive on these issues.”

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

Police Monday released a video of the culprit, a white man who is about 30, 6 feet tall and 190 pounds with a light complexion and straight, short brown hair. He was wearing a dark-colored peacoat, beige slacks and Vans sneakers.
