Feds continue separations of fams at border
The government has continued to separate migrant children and families at the U.S.Mexico border even though President Trump signed an executive order ending the practice, data show.
Since the reversal in June, agents have separated 81 migrant kids from their parents or other family members, according to data released Thursday by the Department of Homeland Security.
A Homeland Security spokeswoman noted minors may still be separated from parents if their parents have criminal histories or if there's concern about a kid's wellbeing.
Immigration advocates worry the administration may be overstepping its authority.
“The government should not be separating families based on vague or unsubstantiated allegations,” said Lee Gelernt of the American Civil Liberties Union lawyer
