Cops block bike lane yet again

- BY JILLIAN JORGENSEN

A cyclist getting hit by a car and a warning from City Hall apparently wasn’t enough to stop cops at an NYPD precinct from parking in a Brooklyn bike lane.

Police from the 88th Precinct were parked in the Jay St. bike lane again Thursday morning, according to a cyclist who posted a picture on Twitter — a day after an aide to Mayor de Blasio said City Hall told police to knock it off.

That message came because a cyclist was hit on the street — and told the Brooklyn Paper it was because she’d swerved into traffic lanes to avoid an NYPD vehicle parked in the bike lane. Concerned cyclists on Twitter tagged Wiley Norvell, a top de Blasio aide and cyclist.

“Not acceptable conduct,” Norvell responded, adding that City Hall had alerted Chief of Transportation Thomas Chan to “get the problem resolved.”

But that message apparently didn’t get through. The next day, another cyclist reported the same police precinct was back at it in the same bike lane.

“Actually, they are there again obstructing the bike lane. Officer was respectful in answering that they were assigned to be there,” cyclist Ian Dutton tweeted, with a picture showing a patrol car blocking the bike lane.
