Blaz donor’s Don angle is eyed
A corrupt donor to Mayor de Blasio who is cooperating with federal prosecutors said Wednesday that he is not banking on a pardon from President Trump.
The admission from rich wannabe big shot Jona Rechnitz came in response to a series of unexpected questions regarding his father’s political ties. Rechnitz’s dad, Robert Rechnitz, is a well-connected developer in Los Angeles.
John Meringolo, representing exNYPD Deputy Inspector James (Jimmy) Grant, said Robert Rechnitz held a $100,000 per table fund-raiser for Trump and had ties to the President through real estate. “Do you feel you’re going to ask for a pardon from President Trump in this case?” Meringolo asked. “No,” Rechnitz, 36, replied. But Susan Necheles, representing Brooklyn businessman Jeremy Reichberg, alleged that Robert Rechnitz said on a wiretap he could “go to Washington” to help get his son out of trouble. “I think he may have thought he was going to get a pardon out of this,” Necheles said.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Martin Bell called the question “nakedly prejudicial” and noted that former President Barack Obama was in office when Robert Rechnitz made the “go to Washington” comment.
