Blaz will not testify in cop bribery trial

- BY STEPHEN REX BROWN

Mayor de Blasio will not be forced to testify in an ongoing NYPD bribery trial that has highlighted Hizzoner’s shoddy record-keeping.

Manhattan Federal Judge Gregory Woods ruled Monday that he would exclude de Blasio’s testimony from the trial of Brooklyn police buff Jeremy Reichberg and ex-Deputy Inspector James (Jimmy) Grant.

The judge said he would share the basis for his ruling on Tuesday.

Grant’s attorney John Meringolo had hoped to grill de Blasio about his relationship with a former donor, Jona Rechnitz.

The wannabe real estate big shot testified in the trial that he and Reichberg showered cops with gifts in the hopes of making money off of NYPD connections. Rechnitz said that he also tried to buy access to City Hall by donating over $100,000 to de Blasio’s causes.

Emails introduced at trial showed Rechnitz and de Blasio had communicated more than was previously known.

City Hall turned over neverbefore-seen emails between the mayor and Rechnitz after receiving a subpoena from Meringolo. An earlier Freedom of Information request filed by news organizations for emails between the two men was revealed to be incomplete, raising questions about de Blasio’s compliance with transparency laws.

“The closeness of Mr. Rechnitz’s relationship to the mayor and the mayor’s records retention practices are not….relevant or admissible,” city attorney Tom Roberts wrote over the weekend, arguing that de Blasio should not have to take the stand.

Meanwhile, Monday’s testimony featured Reichberg’s brother, Moshe Reichberg, taking the stand under an immunity order. Moshe (photo) wiped away a tear as he recalled his brother handing him around six phones and stacks of police business cards the evening before the FBI raided Jeremy’s home in July 2016.

Moshe said he fell asleep in a guest room with his pockets full of the stash.

The FBI woke him up and told him to leave the three-story house in Borough Park — but not before searching his pockets.
