Cops shoot armed man in Bronx

- BY JOHN ANNESE

NYPD officers responding to a shooting in the Bronx opened fire on a suspected gunman, wounding him Wednesday night, police sources said.

Plainclothes officers with the 47th Precinct’s anti-crime unit were patrolling near Cranford Ave. and White Plains Road in Wakefield when they heard gunshots at about 7:45 p.m., police said.

They got out of their car and came upon a man toting a silver revolver, NYPD Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison told reporters.

“The officers yelled, ‘Police, don’t move! Drop the gun!’” Harrison said. When the man pointed his gun at the officers, one of the cops fired a single round, hitting the man in the chest.

Wounded, the suspect ran south, and then turned east on Cranford Ave., where he collapsed, authorities said. Cops recovered the revolver.

Police gave the man first aid, and called an ambulance, Harrison said. The suspect was in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center, in police custody.

Cops found another man on White Plains Road with a gunshot to his arm, Harrison said. Investigators believe he and the shooter were arguing before the shooting erupted.

Medics took that man to Jacobi in critical condition, Harrison said.

The officers weren’t injured during the confrontation, police said.
