Chris meets with Prez on top aide gig

- Kate Feldman

Chris Christie may make it to the White House after all.

The former New Jersey governor met with President Trump about the open chief of staff job Thursday evening, Axios reported, calling him a “top contender.”

Christie, who ran for President in 2016 before dropping out after the New Hampshire primary, was on Trump’s shortlist for vice president and was brought on as a leader of his transition team before being dumped after the Bridgegate scandal.

His name also came up as a possible attorney general.

Christie’s ties to Jared Kushner’s family have been rumored to make a White House position a nonstarter, however, as the former U.S. attorney for New Jersey locked up Kushner’s father in 2004 for tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions.

CNN previously called Christie a “strong option” for chief of staff in the hopes that he could create a “functioning White House.”

Chief of staff John Kelly is set to depart at the end of the year and Trump has had a tough time finding a replacement.
