LeMahieu deal likely means Manny will not wear pinstripes
The Yankees have a new infielder. It's just not Manny Machado.
The Bombers are bringing DJ LeMahieu into the fold on a two-year deal worth $24 million, per multiple reports. The YES Network's Jack Curry was first to report the deal.
A two-time All-Star with the Colorado Rockies, LeMahieu has spent all but 25 games of his big-league career at second base.
The 30-year-old former LSU star hit .276 last season with 15 home runs and 62 RBI. He won the NL batting title in 2016 with a .348 average playing his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field.
For his career, LeMahieu has a .298 average with 49 homers and 349 RBI with a .756 OPS.
Adding LeMahieu — a threetime Gold Glove winner — is another sign the Yankees are likely out of the Machado sweepstakes.
The Yankees are reportedly eyeing LeMahieu as a do-it-all infielder who can play at first, second or third.
