‘VIEW’ TO A BLAZ-WHOOPIN
CHAT HOST SIDESWIPES MAYOR OVER TRAFFIC-CLOGGING BIKE LANES
All politics really is local.
Mayor de Blasio went on “The View” Wednesday to boost his national profile and spread the gospel of his health care plan — but wound up getting shouted at by Whoopi Goldberg over bike lanes.
“I like all of that, that all sounds good,” Goldberg said of de Blasio’s plans to expand existing health care programs in the city. “But you know what’s really pissing me off?”
From there, the movie star launched into a screed about bike lanes — firing off a list of grievances about how de Blasio had “screwed the city up.”
“I don’t think you understand the impact of taking
., which is six lanes, down to two-and-a-half,” she said, arguing it was even worse ring the storms. here are a couple problems with that pe: 10th Ave. does t have any bike es, and the one-way eet is six lanes wide. Goldberg had other mplaints to vent at Blasio. “Also, I’m upset that love these bikes t you don’t tell peoto put a helmet on. tell children to put elmet on.” She also seemed to me the mayor for size of trucks in city: “We’ve got ne-block-long cks delivering and y can’t make the ns.” e Blasio defended es, which became more prominent under the Bloomberg administration, by noting that they’d helped the city reduce traffic fatalities to the lowest levels the city had seen since 1910.
“We brought it back down to the level of 1910, because these bike lanes slow down traffic,” he said.
Goldberg wasn’t buying it.
“But you screwed the city up,” she said over him. “Listen, you go through the city with a police escort, I come in every day, I come in every day, and I find that because you can’t make a turn anywhere, you can’t go straight anywhere, when there’s a storm, people can’t move anywhere.”
She even accused him of being in cahoots with Gov. Cuomo to mess up her morning ride.
“Now you have Cuomo coming in talking about congestion pricing, and I kind of feel like it’s a setup,” she said.
