Checks and balances bad: Trump
President Trump lashed out Thursday against House Democrats, complaining that the system of checks and balances giving his political opponents power equates to “unlimited presidential harassment.”
Trump targeted House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who announced a day earlier that his committee would be looking into alleged financial crimes related to the President's businesses.
“So now Congressman Adam Schiff announces, after having found zero Russian Collusion, that he is going to be looking at every aspect of my life, both financial and personal, even though there is no reason to be doing so. Never happened before! Unlimited Presidential Harassment,” Trump wrote in an early morning tweet.
Trump took a break from complaining during an appearance at the National Prayer Breakfast, where he encouraged attendees to embrace their faith and “fill our hearts with love.”
However, he returned to Schiff later, saying the lawmaker “has no basis" for launching probes into Russian election meddling and Trump's finances and calling the California Democrat “a political hack who's trying to build a name for himself.”
Schiff said Wednesday the Intelligence panel investigation will examine issues including "the scope and scale" of the Kremlin's attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election and whether anyone from overseas has attempted to hold leverage over Trump or his family.
Trump accused Schiff and others of using their newfound majority in the House to carry on a “continuation” of special counsel Robert Mueller's “witch hunt.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday asked what Trump's "afraid of?"
