Revis: Sam could be Super

- BY MARK FISCHER

The sight of Joe Namath handing the Patriots yet another Super Bowl must have stung Jets fans, but not to worry, because on that same weekend, another Gang Green legend predicted the team’s present-day franchise quarterback will end the miserable 50-year streak of futility. And soon. “I think he (Sam Darnold) can bring a Super Bowl in the near future for the Jets,” Darrelle Revis told TMZ last week in Atlanta. “It’s going to take some time, but I feel like he’s capable of doing it.”

Revis, who signed a one-day contract to retire on One Jets Drive last season, joins a packed bandwagon of Darnold oracles.

Before Darnold took the field for his debut, former NFL signal-caller Carson Palmer said there’s “no doubt whatsoever” that the cool California 21-year-old is “good enough to win a Super Bowl.”

As if that wasn’t enough to give Jets fans hope, Eagles receiver Alshon Jeffery took it further after seeing Darnold in action. The former USC standout was one of a few bright spots for the Jets in a trying campaign, throwing for 17 touchdowns, 15 INTs and 2,865 yards, and bettered his play as the season went on.

“His impact will be huge,” Jeffery told NJ Advance Media in January. “I think Darnold will excel. Knowing the [head coach] Adam Gase that I know, and the potential the Jets are looking for, I’m pretty sure Sam is going to be a Super Bowl MVP. He can win a Super Bowl.”

If so, he’ll earn the Broadway Sam moniker.
