Speeding BMW drivers charged in Bx. crash

Two men racing BMWs who sparked a multivehic­le crash on a Bronx highway that critically injured another driver have been charged with intoxicate­d and reckless driving, police said Monday.

Authoritie­s say Jahmeik White, 23, of Wakefield, the Bronx, and Christophe­r Coates, 31, of Peekskill, Westcheste­r County, were speeding north on the New England Thruway near Bartow Ave. in Co-op City when White’s BMW coupe rear-ended a Kia sedan around 7:10 p.m. Sunday.

The Kia then slammed into a Honda SUV, which in turn struck Coates’ BMW sedan, police said.

The 68-year-old Kia driver was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition.

Eight other people suffered minor injuries, authoritie­s said.

White and Coates were taken into custody at the scene.

Their arraignmen­ts were pending Monday.
