A ‘social’ outcast

Advocate hopeful’s staffer axed for tweets

City Councilman Jumaane Williams recently hired and fired a foulmouthed frat boy to serve as the finance director on his public advocate campaign, the Daily News has learned.

Declan Hahn – a 2016 Emerson University graduate who Williams named to his campaign team in January – has a history of racy and offensive Twitter posts that could have proved a liability for his new boss.

“I just bought condoms and the guy asked me if I wanted a bag, and I go, nah she’s not that bad,” the former fraternity brother tweeted under the alias Samuel McCurry from his @HAHN2thenextone handle July 11, 2014. “I think that’s the best joke I’ve ever made.”

Hahn’s online antics were not a one-off, either.

Ten days after posting the unoriginal bag gag, he tweeted a step-by-step guide on how to convince a woman to have anal sex: “18 Ways To Get Your Girl To Do Butt Stuff, From A Girl.”

Hahn chalked the offensive posts up to youthful ignorance.

“Five years ago when I was 19 I made an inappropriate and stupid joke,” Hahn said. “It was immature but it doesn’t represent who I am nor what I believe. I regret it and apologize.”

The posts quickly drew condemnation from feminists. Sonia Ossorio, president of the National Organization for Women’s New York City chapter, said they showed a “lack of good judgment.”

“It’s egregious stuff,” she said. “It strikes to the heart the need to vet those who are representing you.”

Williams’ campaign seemed to agree — once The News pointed out the posts.

“While young people have the right to make up for mistakes, learn and grow, this type of language is not representative of our campaign’s mission or values,” a spokesman said.

While many of Hahn’s posts were of a sexual nature, they weren’t confined to bad sex gags.

“If Germany was incarcerating jews at nearly the rate that the US incarcerates blacks, there would be major international intervention,” he wrote in November 2014.

It’s not the first time Williams has come under fire for his associates.

Two weeks ago, The News revealed he employed a campaign staffer who was penalized by the city for sending romantic poems to a high school student. The employee, Tatek Ewart, still works as a teacher for the Department of Education, but was slapped with a $5,000 fine for the inappropriate behavior.

And Hahn isn’t the only recent worker with a questionable online footprint. Rance Huff, Williams’ Council chief of staff, also has an eyebrowraising Twitter history.

“Negan pimp game is crazy!! ‘IN CASE U DIDN’T NOTICE, I JUST SLIPPD MY D--K DOWN YOUR THROAT & YOU THANKED ME!’” he tweeted from @Rancehuff in November 2016 in a reference to the zombie thriller “The Walking Dead.”

Huff explained the post, “This was a quote from an episode of one of my favorite shows ‘The Walking Dead.’ I apologize that it was in poor taste.”
