BYE-BYE MIGGY

Andujar back on IL after brief return

- BY SARAH VALENZUELA

Well, that didn’t take long.

Just when the Yankees injured list seemed to be whittling, more of the Bronx Bombers have been placed on the IL — including a very important one.

In their latest move, the Battered Bombers placed Miguel Andujar on the 10-day IL before Monday’s rained-out game against the Orioles at the Stadium.

Sound familiar? That’s because it also happened just one month ago.

Andujar’s latest injury is the same as the one that put him on the shelf in April: a right labrum tear.

The Yankees’ current list of injured players is back to 13, with their season total amounting to 17 players who’ve gone on the IL.

Andujar had been active from his last IL stint for about 10 days. Andujar was first placed on the IL on April 1, initially with a shoulder strain, later diagnosed with a “small” tear in the labrum of his right shoulder. He rehabbed that shoulder by working out the muscles around the tear, in an attempt to avoid undergoing seasonending surgery.

When he returned after nearly a month down, his offensive performance struggled. In his nine game back, he had just three hits and no RBI or runs scored. Following the Yankees’ win over the Mariners last Wednesday, Aaron Boone sounded hopeful Andujar’s bat would return in time.

“He’s such a good hitter. I talk to guys and tell them it’s a tough game and he had an injury,” Boone said. “He’ll get there.” LOSING LOAISIGA Jonathan Loaisiga has also been placed on the 10-day (retroactive to May 10) along with Andujar. Loaisiga was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes Barre on May 8 after James Paxton was placed on the IL.

Loaisiga went down with a right shoulder strain.

The right-hander has pitched four games in the majors this season and was expected to start the Yankees’ game against the Orioles on Monday, but was scrapped and replaced by Luis Cessa before the game was called. In his 14 innings pitched, he had 13 strikeouts, eight walks, and had given up seven earned runs. COME ON DOWN

The Yankees recalled lefty reliever Nestor Cortes Jr. and righty Chance Adams from Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes Barre. Adams was slated to start in the minors Sunday before the game was rained out.

?? GETTY ?? Miguel Andujar returns from shoulder injury just last weekend, but his performance isn’t up to par, so Yankees suspect he’s not 100 percent, and on Monday they put him back on injured list.
