Camp Junior for Bx. teens opens

Seek 2 in beating of man, 74, in restaurant

-

A summer camp named in honor of slain teen Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz opened Wednesday, offering free programs to Bronx kids.

Junior was just 15 when he was stabbed to death in June 2018 outside a Belmont bodega by gang members who thought he was someone else.

Camp Junior, located in Harriman State Park in Rockland County and run by The Fresh Air Fund, will include anti-violence and anti-gang lessons aimed at offering kids alternatives to joining gangs, Gov. Cuomo said.

“Camp Junior is providing Bronx kids with a home away from home and teaching them skills to resist the temptation to join a gang in the first place,” Cuomo said.

New York State Parks established the camp with the Fresh Air Fund and Bronx lawmakers, investing $2 million. Part of the money was used to rehabilitate a camp in Harriman.

A group of 175 children have already started at Camp Junior, with another 325 expected to attend before the end of the summer. Next year, the camp is expected to serve up to 1,000 children.

Junior (photo) was a member of the NYPD’s Explorers program and hoped to become a police detective. Two brutes beat a 74-year-old man until he was almost unconscious after he asked them to stop kicking his chair in an Upper West Side eatery.

The victim was dining at La Nueva Victoria on Broadway and W. 95th St. on June 1 about 9 p.m. when the miscreants began kicking his seat.

When the victim asked them to stop, one man punched him so hard the victim hit the floor. The second hit the victim with a chair.

The victim suffered pain and bruising.

Cops on Wednesday released video and photos of the suspects who ran off down W. 95th St. after the attack.

One is believed to be about 18 and 5-foot-10. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and multicolored sneakers. The second man is believed to be in his 40s, bald, and bearded with tattoos on his left forearm and right bicep. He wore green camouflage pants, a black t-shirt and black and white sneakers.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
