Cummings’ Md. home burglarized
The home of Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings was broken into Saturday.
“The Baltimore Police Department is investigating a report of a burglary that occurred on July
27, 2019, at approximately
3:40 a.m., at a home [on] Madison Avenue. At this time, it is unknown if any property was taken from the location,” Baltimore Police confirmed to the Daily News.
“Detectives from the Central District are investigating this incident.”
A public record search shows Cummings lives on the block where the break-in occurred. It is unclear if the 68-year-old was at home at the time. The Associated Press confirmed Cummings was in Baltimore last weekend.
Cummings spokesman Andy Eichar referred questions to Baltimore police. A suspect may have been filmed by an external security camaccording era, to NBC News.
The break-in occurred shortly before President Trump launched a controversial Twitter attack on Cummings (photo) and the city of Baltimore, which is in the congressman’s district.
“Cumming [sic] District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place,” Trump tweeted Saturday.
Following Trump’s attack, Cummings tweeted that he goes home every day to Maryland’s Seventh District.
“Mr. President, I go home to my district daily . ... It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”
Cummings has been critical of conditions on the U.S.Mexico border, where Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy is blamed for separating migrant children and parents.
