Rex back to talking about feet
It's always been feet first with Rex Ryan.
With the grossest subplot of the NFL preseason being Antonio Brown's feet, the topic came up during Friday's “Get Up” on ESPN. While it was clear that fillin co-host Sam Ponder hated talking about it during the early-morning hour (or most likely any hour), the ex-Jets coach was up to the task:
“We gotta quit talking about feet and toenails while people are eating their Cheerios,” Ponder insisted, forgetting that she was sitting next to the most famous foot fetishist in the country.
Ryan did not forget, extremely sheepishly saying, “Let's not talk about feet.”
Since getting fired from the Bills at the end of the 2016 season, Ryan has worked on TV. This might be the most interesting thing he's done in that role.
GORDON REINSTATED
Josh Gordon's winding career has included several second chances following a trail of multiple drug suspensions that cast doubt whether the talented but troubled playmaker would ever get on an NFL field again.
He's getting yet another opportunity.
The NFL conditionally reinstated the Patriots wide receiver on Friday.
Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Gordon that on Sunday, Gordon can rejoin the team for meetings and conditioning and individual workouts. After that, according to a league statement, “Subject to appropriate progress on clinical care and other arrangements, he will be permitted to participate in team activities, including practice.”
But Gordon is barred from next Thursday's game because of a lack of sufficient conditioning and practice time.
Gordon had been suspended indefinitely since December 2018 for violations of the league's substance abuse policy.
The Patriots have stayed mostly mum this preseason about the potential of Gordon rejoining the team, with coach Bill Belichick saying earlier this month, “We don't have anything to do with Josh Gordon. He's suspended. You need to talk to the league. We have no control over Josh Gordon.”
Now they will. Gordon has been suspended several times by the NFL for violations of its drug policies since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2012, and missed the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons.
After being reinstated in 2017, Gordon revealed in an interview with GQ magazine that he drank or used marijuana before games. “Probably every game of my career,” he said.
LIBERTY LOSES
Allisha Gray scored 22 points and the Dallas Wings took the lead in the final minute to win their third straight, beating the Liberty 83-77 on Friday night.
Isabelle Harrison's basket with 40.4 seconds left gave Dallas a 76-75 lead. Arike Ogunbowale, who added 21 points for the Wings (9-17), followed with three consecutive free throws and Gray added a pair to make it 81-75 with 17.4 seconds to go.
Tina Charles led New York with 25 points.
