Hid body on storm-hit beach

- BY JOHN ANNESE

An ex-con who allegedly killed his girlfriend’s roommate used the devastation of Hurricane Sandy to cover up the 2012 crime, dumping his victim’s body on a storm-ravaged beach in Queens, prosecutors said.

The deception went unanswered for seven years, until Thyron Aycock was indicted Tuesday on murder charges, prosecutors said.

Aycock, now 43, allegedly beat his victim, 32-year-old Shawn Rucker, in the head with a blunt object several times sometime between Oct. 29 and Nov. 7, 2012, then wrapped the body in a plastic garbage bag, burying him on Rockaway Beach, prosecutors charge.

Workers found his partiallyburied remains days later while they were cleaning up damage from the storm.

Rucker had relocated to Queens from Baltimore not long before his killing, authorities said. His sister-in-law, Kym Ellison, told the New York Times in 2012 that he came to New York that month because he was dating someone, and he spoke to his family back home hours before the storm hit.

The charge against Aycock, who’s been in and out of prison for violent crimes since 2016, came just a few days before his scheduled release from Rikers Island in a Manhattan assault.

In a statement to investigators, Aycock said he met Rucker when he moved in with a Far Rockaway woman named Tiana whom he was dating, according to prosecutors.

“I didn’t care much for Shawn or the way he treated Tiana. He was always starting arguments with her and I began starting arguments with him,” he told detectives Saturday, according to prosecutors.

Authorities Tuesday didn’t release details of how they cracked the case.

Aycock was arraigned in Queens Supreme Court and ordered held without bail.

“The defendant, who got away with this heinous killing for years, is now in custody and faces spending the rest of his life locked behind bars,” said Acting Queens District Attorney John Ryan.
