Rape shocker 2 stars convicted of preying on drunk women & sharing videos
Two Korean pop stars were found guilty of rape on Friday, preying on drunk women, shooting video of the heinous crimes and sharing the footage with friends.
Seoul District Court Judge Kang Seong-soo sentenced singer-songwriter Jung Joon-young to six years behind bars and former boy band member Choi Jonghoon to five years in prison for committing “special quasi rape” against women who were either unconscious or incapacitated, according to a press release from the court.
The judge said 30-year-old Jung raped women who were “drunk and unable to resist, filmed them nude and having sex, then spread it on a group chat,” the BBC reported.
“We can’t imagine the pain the victims might have felt who found out later,” he added.
The case of the Korean crooners, dubbed the “Burning Sun Scandal,” was first made public earlier this year.
Authorities initially started investigating Lee Seunghyun, better known as Seungri from the K-pop group Big Bang, which ultimately brought them to Choi, 29, and Jung.
The 28-year-old Lee was accused of procuring sexual escorts for investors in the nightclub, Burning Sun, in Seoul’s ritzy Gangnam district. The accusations came out during a wider probe that staff at the popular spot were drugging and raping women customers, CBS reported.
Seungri was also allegedly part of the group chat containing the illicit images and video of women.
He has denied all accusations raised against him.
Jung, who rose to fame on the television talent show “Superstar K4,” told the court he was sorry for his action during his final testimony.
“I deeply regret my foolishness and I feel great remorse,” he said. “From now on, I shall only live in remorse.”
He quit the music business in March in wake of the allegations.
The court said Choi, who was previously a member of the popular band F.T. Island, “did not feel remorse after mass-raping drunk victims.”
