To miss Dolphins game with ankle injury

-

Dolphins roll into town on Sunday.

“He’s the heartbeat of our defense,” Gase said. “We need to him be able to go full-throttle. He’s got to feel right for him to get back out there.”

Adams has been a tour de force for Gang Green. The fourth-year captain leads the team in sacks, forced fumbles, combined tackles, solo tackles, tackles for loss, quarterback hits and is tied for the most passes defensed.

“I don’t think I could affect the game like I wanted to,” an emotional Adams said after the Jets’ 33-6 loss to the Bengals. “I was in a lot of pain.”

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has done a solid job despite a litany of injuries, but he’s definitely going to miss the undisputed leader of his group.

INJURY UPDATES

Sam Darnold is expected to be fine after suffering bruised ribs and aggravating his knee, an issue that had him limping toward the end of the game.

“I feel really good physically,” Darnold said Monday. “The knee is really a non-issue. I just got to make sure that I stay on top it in terms of icing and all that kind of stuff. But other than that, I feel really good. I just got to make sure I do all the right things to keep my body in check this late in the year.”

It’s been a weird season for the second-year quarterback, who’s dealt with rib, knee and thumb issues to go along with his bout with mononucleosis.

“The sickness in the beginning of the year, that just sucked,” Darnold said. “I couldn’t really do anything about that. Other than that, I’ve felt great all year.”
