‘American Gods’ actor rips show big

- BY JOSEPH WILKINSON

Actor Orlando Jones said Saturday he was canned from the show “American Gods,” in an online rant against the series’ showrunner.

Jones (inset), who played Mr. Nancy in the Starz series, said he was fired from the show in September, and ripped production honcho Charles Eglee — whom he didn’t name — for the decision in a video posted on Twitter.

“The new Season 3 showrunner is Connecticutborn and Yale-educated, so he’s very smart. He thinks that Mr. Nancy’s angry, get s—t done [attitude] is the wrong message for black America,” Jones, 51, said. “That’s right, this white man sits in that decision-making chair, and I’m sure he has many black BFFs who are his advisers and made it clear to him that if they did not get rid of that angry god Mr. Nancy, he’d start a Denmark Vesey uprising in this country.”

Vesey was a free AfricanAmerican who was convicted of planning a mass slave revolt in 1822 in Charleston, S.C.

Eglee was brought on to steer the third season of “American Gods” when it was renewed in March.

In another tweet, Jones tagged Gabrielle Union, former Spice Girl Mel B., Nick Cannon and Heidi Klum, saying that all of them complained about Fremantle US, the company that produces “American Gods,” and “America’s Got Talent.”

Union said she was kicked off “America’s Got Talent” after calling out the “toxic” work environment at the show.

Cannon, Klum and Mel B. were also ousted from the reality contest show.

In the second half of the video, Jones thanked Neil Gaimon, author of the novel “American Gods” on which the show is based, and series creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. Fuller and Green left the show after its first season.
