literally I flew back up and I was like, ‘Lou! Lou!’”
Cucuzza takes care of the visiting players at Yankee Stadium and Cole had taken to sitting in his office and chatting with him. In fact, he had shown Cucuzza pictures of a meal that he and his wife had in Italy and mentioned the wine on the table.
“I’m really good friends with Lou. He’s just about as classy as it gets. I mean I’ve been fortunate to work with some really great guys in the clubhouse … There are some visiting clubhouse guys that are really close to my heart and Lou is one of them,” Cole said.
ADAMS GONE
Chance Adams is the first casualty of the Cole megadeal. The Yankees swingman was designated for assignment to make room for Cole and his nine-year, $324 million deal on the Yankees’ 40man roster.
Adams is 1-2 with an 8.18 ERA across two seasons in the Bronx.
The 25-year-old righthander has shuttled regularly between the Bronx and Triple-A Scranton WilkesBarre and struggled to carve out a role on the Yankees pitching staff.
Once a highly regarded prospect within the Yankees farm, peaking at 81st on Baseball America’s 2018 Top 100 list, Adams has allowed 10 home runs in 33 big league innings.
