TOMBS BEATDOWN Photos show extent of jailer’s injuries from inmate attack

New photos have surfaced showing the brutal consequences of an inmate attack on a city correction officer at a lower Manhattan jail.

The correction officer required surgery for five broken orbital bones in his eye socket and a broken nose, according to his union. Photos obtained by the Daily News show him sitting on a gurney with a black eye and extremely swollen cheek.

Sources identified the attacker as 22-year-old Adam Davis, who is classified in Correction Department records as a member of the Gorilla Stone Bloods.

Officers’ Benevolent Association said Davis is expected to be criminally charged for the brutal attack. The union is calling on any sentence for the incident to be on top of the time Davis receives for his other charges, which include burglary and a Nov. 12 alleged attack on a different correction officer at the same jail known as the Tombs.

The officer is recovering and receiving support through the Correction Department, an agency spokesman said.

The trouble began on Monday at 6:30 p.m. when Davis stepped out of his cell without permission, according to an incident report. A correction captain ordered Davis back into his cell, but the inmate reached for the captain’s keys, pushing him to the ground, according to the report. Davis then allegedly punched the victim and another correction officer. The correction officers blasted Davis with pepper spray in response.

Once backup arrived, Davis “ceased his aggression,” according to the report.

“This is an active investigation that we fully intend to prosecute,” a spokesman for Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. said. “Our office is currently developing the strongest possible case.”

The Tombs has been the subject of several ugly headlines in recent months.

Last month, an exterminator working for the Correction Department was accused of smuggling a pound of marijuana, the synthetic drug K2, tobacco and scalpel blades into the jail. A contraband search in an inmate shower area uncovered weed, cigarettes, cellphones, cords — and barbecue sauce.

The Correction Department also said it was investigating a video posted to Instagram of inmates rapping and dancing inside a cell at the jail.

Also, in December, a correction officer was hospitalized after an inmate pushed him down the stairs, officials said.

A correction captain nicknamed “the Terror of the Tombs” was sued in October for allegedly harassing correction officers.
