Cash woes to face likely B’klyn party boss replacement
ALBANY — The assemblywoman expected to replace Brooklyn Democratic Party boss Frank Seddio said Monday she’s jazzed about the prospect of becoming the first woman of color to lead a Democratic Party in the city.
“I think it’s very exciting,” said Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte (D-Flatbush), who most recently served as chairwoman of the party’s finance committee and has received Seddio’s blessing to replace him. “I think also that shows he too wanted to see a woman and I really commend him for that.”
Seddio, 74, will make his retirement official at a meeting of Brooklyn Dem district leaders on Wednesday — the same day the party’s latest financial filing is due.
Last year, the Daily News reported that the party’s housekeeping account began dwindling in 2013, the year after Seddio took over the reins of the party. Cash reserves fell from $505,000 in 2013 to $32,800 by July 2019, state Board of Elections records show.
The News also reported that Seddio has his own separate state campaign committee, Friends of Frank Seddio, that took $24,000 in loans from the Kings County Dems Committee account as of the last filing.
The longtime party boss is also fighting more than $2.2 million in debt stemming from his stake in several Golden Corral franchises in Kentucky.
