Don gloats over Dems’ bad blood
President Trump gloated Monday over what he called a simmering “feud” between Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, suggesting he sees Democratic 2020 infighting as politically beneficial.
“Bernie Sander’s volunteers are trashing Elizabeth ‘Pocahontus’ Warren. Everybody knows her campaign is dead and want her potential voters,” the president tweeted, misspelling Sanders’ last name and the derisive nickname he uses for Warren. “Elizabeth is very angry at Bernie. Do I see a feud brewing?”
Trump’s slight came on the heels of revelations that the Sanders campaign circulated talking points to volunteers in which they were instructed to tell voters that Warren won’t be able to expand the Democratic base because “the people who support her are highly educated” and “more affluent.”
Speaking to reporters in Iowa on Sunday, Warren said she was “disappointed” in the Sanders campaign’s new strategy, which broke a nearly yearlong 2020 truce between the two left-wing heavyweights.
“I was disappointed to hear that Bernie is sending his volunteers out to trash me,” Warren said. “I hope Bernie reconsiders and turns his campaign in a different direction.”
The president also took aim at Michael Bloomberg on Monday over the ex-mayor’s massive anti-Trump ad spree.
“Mini Mike Bloomberg is spending a lot of money on False Advertising,” he posted. “I was the person who saved Pre-Existing Conditions in your Healthcare, you have it now, while at the same time winning the fight to rid you of the expensive, unfair and very unpopular Individual Mandate … I will always protect your Pre-Existing Conditions, the Dems will not!”
Bloomberg tweeted in response, “Glad to see you’re watching our ads. I know management isn’t your strong suit, so perhaps you don’t know your Justice Department supports a suit that would undermine protections for pre-existing conditions. Now that you know, why not ask them to drop the suit?”
