King Frank

-

Snake, slug, weasel. Pick your least favorite critter to describe Frank Seddio, who on Wednesday will slink away from his destructive reign over the sputtering Brooklyn Democratic machine. Good riddance. If his successors have any brains, they will do a 180 on everything Seddio.

The boss’ sudden run for the exit may be motivated by his ongoing personal legal troubles, chronicled by our Mike Gartland. We hope so.

It may also be a ploy to quickly install his favored replacement. The other 39 district leaders must be wary. It’s their choice, not Seddio’s, to pick a leader.

We’re betting the departure is also timed to the Wednesday filing date of the finances of the Kings County Democratic Committee, which Seddio has commingled with his personal committee and run into the ground, with assets of a half-million dollars in 2013 falling to just $32,000 in the last report. Will Wednesday’s report show an empty kitty?

A back-bencher assemblyman out of Canarsie’s notorious Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club, Seddio leaped forward in 2005, when veteran Joe Lentol wisely decided not to take a newly created Surrogate judgeship cooked up in a dirty midnight deal in Albany. Despite his only judicial experience being a judge in the Queen of Coney Island beauty pageant, the TJ loyalist took over responsibility for the patronage-rich Surrogate Court.

Before Seddio could let his pals plunder the estates of the dead, he had to quit, chased out by this page for ethics violations.

Close the book on him, replacing him with an honorable small-d Democrat. Don’t laugh; change is possible.
