GOPers get fidgety, toy with case
Republicans are really spinning this impeachment trial.
How much? So much so that they actually brought real-life fidget spinners (inset) into the Senate chambers Thursday to pass the time during long-winded Democratic speeches.
Sen. Richard
Burr, (R-N.C.) handed out the one-time favorite toy of 7year-olds to restless colleagues before Thursday’s proceedings in the trial of President Trump got underway.
Burr was spotted playing with a blue spinner while Rep. Jerrold Nadler, an impeachment manager, was making an argument.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) was spotted with a purple one on his desk, while Sen. Pat Toomey, (R-Pa.), had a white one on his desk.
It was unclear if Democrats got to play, too.
Burr also gave out stress balls during the weekly lunch for Republican senators, according to a report.
Not all of America approved.
“How come I get yelled at for having a fidget spinner in class but SENATORS can have them in an IMPEACHMENT HEARING,” tweeted one young trial watcher.
Observers also noticed Sen. Marsha Blackburn reading a book, while Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was spotted sketching a picture of the Capitol.
Senators are under strict rules that prevent them from talking and using electronics during the trial.
The rules also restrict what the senators can drink on the floor, limiting the lawmakers to water and milk. “It’s true, I had some milk with my chocolate,” tweeted Cotton.
“I guess I could’ve added vodka & had a White Russian (minus the Kahlua). But @RepAdamSchiff probably would’ve accused me of collusion.”
