The knives come out on B’klyn 2 train

- BY THOMAS TRACY

Two squabbling straphangers pulled knives on each other while a child in a stroller stood between them on a packed Brooklyn subway train, a harrowing video seen by the Daily News showed.

The man and woman were in a heated argument on a crowded No. 2 train when the woman pulled a knife about 5 p.m. Wednesday, the video taken by a fellow passenger showed.

A moment later, the man she was arguing with grabbed her wrist and whipped out a knife of his own. As the two threatened each other with the blades, a stroller with a child inside was slowly pulled away from the combatants.

During the incident, the woman swiped at the man with her knife but he managed to back up out of harm’s way, the video shows. Several people tried to grab the man but he pushed them away as others called for calm.

“Hey, there’s a kid right there!” one man was heard screaming.

About three people got between the couple, but the moment they stepped away, the woman started slashing at the man again, the video shows.

The man slashed back, screaming repeatedly “What the f—- you doing?”

Someone ultimately pulled the woman off the train.

An NYPD spokeswoman said that cops were called to the Nostrand Ave. and President St. station in Crown Heights on a report of someone with a knife, but when they arrived they couldn’t find the two people fighting.

“After police were made aware of a video concerning the incident, a further investigation was conducted and complaint reports were recorded for reckless endangerment,” the spokeswoman said. “There are no arrests.”

Patrick Warren, the MTA Chief Safety Officer, said a transit employee radioed for police assistance when the knives came out.

“What’s depicted in that video is disturbing and unacceptable,” Warren said. “The MTA and NYPD have zero tolerance for violence in the subway system.”
