New charge on R. Kelly pervert pile

- BY DAVID MATTHEWS

Singer R. Kelly was hit with new federal charges alleging he sexually abused another minor for four years starting in 1997, according to court papers unsealed Friday in Chicago. The updated federal indictment adds to the jailed singer’s mounting legal challenges across three states.

The new accuser is identified in the court papers as “Minor 6.”

According to the indictment, the victim met Kelly around 1997 or 1998 when she would have been 14 or 15. It says Kelly engaged in sexual contact or sexual acts around that time and for several years before she turned 18.

The new charges seek the forfeiture of all assets belonging to Kelly’s production company, Bass Productions, Ltd., as well as a company owned by co-defendant Derrel McDavid, Kelly’s longtime business manager.

“We continue to fight for him and look forward to the day he is free,” tweeted Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg, adding the hashtag #notguilty.

Kelly (inset), 53, is currently facing charges in four separate jurisdictions in three states stemming from sexual abuse allegations that go back decades. His next scheduled hearing is March 5.

The singer was originally charged in July with conspiring to rig a 2008 child pornography trial in Chicago by paying off witnesses and victims to make false statements and recover child sex tapes before prosecutions could gain possession.

That trial was set to begin April 27 but will likely now be delayed following the new indictment.

Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, also faces a separate case in federal court in Brooklyn that alleges he groomed underage girls who attended his concerts for sexual abuse.

Additional charges are pending in Minnesota.

Kelly has been held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago since July 2019 and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
