Reunion of ‘Friends’ is a go on HBO

- BY JOSEPH WILKINSON

They were on a break — but now they’re back.

The long-rumored “Friends” reunion is officially happening — and all the show’s stars will be there for you.

The untitled and unscripted reunion special will air in May on HBO Max, coinciding with the launch of the new streaming service, according a Friday press release.

It will feature all six main cast members — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

They all shared the news on their own Instagram accounts Friday with the caption, “It’s happening.”

“Guess you could call it the one where they all got back together,” HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly said in a statement, adding that he was “delighted” to see the series thrive on Netflix with younger viewers who missed its initial run from 1994-2004.

All 236 episodes of “Friends” will also be available on HBO Max, according to the press release.

Ben Winston will direct the reunion special, with original producers Marta Kauffman, David Crane and Kevin Bright working as executive producers.

Multiple cast members and creators had previously scoffed at the idea of getting back together.

Just last month, Schwimmer said of a return: “I don’t think it’s possible.”

“I think everyone feels the same: why mess with what felt like the right way to end the series? I don’t want to do anything for the money. It would have to make sense creatively and nothing I’ve heard so far presented to us makes sense.”
