Prez touts $2T building bonanza to fix economy
It’s #InfrastructureWeek in America.
President Trump is pushing a new $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package that would focus on putting America back to work by rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges and rails.
Breaking with fellow Republicans, Trump said Tuesday the so-called Phase 4 of the relief effort must be “VERY BIG & BOLD”
“It should be focused solely on jobs and rebuilding the once great infrastructure of our Country!” Trump declared on Twitter.
The call came hours after Republican congressional leaders poured cold water on Democratic proposals for a big new infrastructure bill.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Monday that he wants to “wait and see” how the 10-figure coronavirus stimulus works before starting on another.
Trump blindsided GOP leaders by siding with Democrats who want to keep the money flowing as Americans face mass unemployment.
Trump may be hoping to get the economy bouncing back from its coronavirus slump just in time for his reelection push in the fall.
Of course, no one should hold their breath waiting for #InsfrastructureWeek to arrive. The internet has made the term synonymous with something that is long-promised but never actually happens.
The last time Trump agreed to discuss the Iword with Democratic leaders he wound up walking out of the meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer because they were in the middle of investigating him over the Ukraine scandal.
