Boy, 14, in critical after Qns. shoot

A 14-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded after two gunmen opened fire as the youngster stood on a Queens streetcorner Monday afternoon.

The teen was on 166th St. at Marsden St. in St. Albans shortly after 5 p.m. when the shooters targeted him, police sources said.

One bullet struck the teen in the neck, and a second hit him in the abdomen, police said. Medics rushed him to Cohen Children’s Medical Center with the life-threatening wounds.

The attack occurred just feet away from the spot where a 17-year-old girl was tragically stabbed to death in November.

“I thought it was the fireworks again, but then there was screaming. He was shot, and a man was carrying him,” said a witness, Tiffany, 24, a school counselor who only gave her first name.

“He was carrying the boy. His mother was screaming, ‘That’s my son, that’s my son! He’s only 14!’ ” Tiffany said. “Another woman was screaming, ‘I can’t live without him!’ ”

She added, “His white shirt was crimson red.”

The suspects ran north on Marsden, and there were no immediate arrests in the case.

His shooting came after one of the bloodiest days in recent memory in the city Sunday, when nine people were murdered in less than 24 hours.

“I’m shocked. I never expected it to happen in the same exact spot as that girl,” Tiffany said.

Talasia Cuffie, 17, bled to death after she was stabbed multiple times on the sidewalk of 166th St. near Foch Blvd. on Nov. 15. Her relatives remembered her as an aspiring FBI agent determined to find justice for her slain 14-year-old cousin, who was killed by a stray bullet three weeks earlier.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting Monday.

“Shootings have gone up all over the city, and Queens is no exception. We’re not going to be able to prosecute our way out of this. We’re going to have to reach out to the community and all its leaders,” she said.
