Theron gets ‘Max’ed out of prequel

Charlize Theron isn’t “Mad” — and that makes her sad.

The star says “it’s a little heartbreaking” she won’t get to play one of her classic characters in a new prequel.

The actress earned wide acclaim for her portrayal of Furiosa in 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and a prequel movie about the fearless imperator is in the works. In May, director George Miller said he was searching for an actress in her 20s to fill the role.

“Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure,” Theron, 44, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “I really love that character [Furiosa], and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner.”

The Oscar winner said she wishes Miller nothing but the best.

“I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making ‘Fury Road’ with him,’” Theron said. “He’s a master.”

Many consider “Mad Max: Fury Road” to be among the best films of the decade, and the movie received 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. The film also stars Tom Hardy.

Theron is now set to star in another action film, “The Old Guard,” which premieres Friday on Netflix.

The actress also told the Hollywood Reporter that she and the creative team behind 2017’s “Atomic Blonde” are “actively developing” a sequel to that film.
