Loaisiga joins Yanks after travel issues

-

Jonathan Loaisiga, who had arrived late because of travel issues getting out of his native Nicaragua, was cleared to begin workouts. Wednesday he threw a bullpen according to Boone.

“He’s been able to really do a lot of work while he’s been home in Nicaragua. He’s thrown a lot of live, he’s even been in some games over there. So he should be good to go,” Boone said of the last arrival at

Yankee camp. “And I think tentatively, we have them going Saturday, a couple innings but he looked good today. ”

TANAKA BACK ON FIELD

Masahiro Tanaka continues to progress in his rehab from a mild concussion, suffered when he took a line drive to the head on the very first day of rebooted spring training. Wednesday he worked on cardio on the field for the second straight day.

“He’s been doing his cardio inside, but then wanting to get him outside in the light and moving around a little bit out there. So, you know, he was able to, you know, do a little more of that today, but he did that yesterday as well and responded well to it,” Boone said. “So, you know, we’re continuing to move cautiously and slow with him, but, but at least encouraged with how he’s responding to what we’ve put in front of them so far.”

EARLY INJURIES

Kyle Higashioka, who was scratched from Tuesday night’s intrasquad scrimmage with a neck issue, was on the field doing baserunning drills on Wednesday.

After two days of intrasquad scrimmages, the Yankees held a short workout at the Stadium. They will go back to scrimmages on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Clint Frazier, who was a designated hitter in the two intrasquad games because he has apparently had a foot issue for the last few months, was on the field but did not do the running drills.

Boone said Frazier has been dealing with plantar fasciitis and that the team has been holding him back, but he should be fine.

THE DAY AFTER

Gerrit Cole ramped up to 67 pitches in Tuesday night’s intrasquad scrimmage and a big test was seeing how his arm and body felt the next day. Boone reported all was fine.

“He was he was good. You know, I think he felt how we probably had hoped to feel the day after taking another step in the progression, you know, 67 pitches last night, a hot night,” Boone said. “I think even though there’s no fans, I think there was still that little bit of adrenaline and, and obviously, you saw his focus out there and the quality of his pitches.”
