Cop stalked, threatened ex-lover: DA

- BY CHELSIA ROSE MARCIUS

An off-duty NYPD cop tracked down his ex-girlfriend and shattered the front door of her Queens home on July 4 following months of threatening text messages that promised to harm her, himself or a new beau unless they got back together, court documents show.

Police Officer Ernie Moran was arrested Wednesday and charged with stalking, aggravated harassment and criminal mischief after sending disturbing texts to his former flame — including one message claiming he had a gun and knife on him, and that he was heading to her Jackson Heights address, according to the criminal complaint filed by the Queens district attorney’s office.

Moran has been suspended without pay, an NYPD spokesperson said Thursday.

The drama began in April after Moran’s girlfriend called it quits, the complaint says. Moran continued to call her multiple times a day saying he’d hurt himself, her, or anyone else she dated if she refused his advances.

The woman ordered Moran to stop contacting her in April, andblocked his number, the complaint continues. Within two weeks the officer showed up at her then-Jamaica home and demanded to speak with her.

The former girlfriend then moved in with her brother in early May, and didn’t tell Moran her new Jackson Heights address. But by July 4, he’d found out where she lived — and told the terrified woman he was coming for her.

“Between 8:04 pm on July 4 and 1:52 am on July 5 [Moran] texted her 28 times, stating that he had his knife and gun on him, that he was going to her house and then texted her the address of where she lives,” the complaint says.

He showed up around 11 p.m., screamed her name and insisted she come out or let him in.

“[He] punched and kicked his front door, then picked up two large planters from the front of the house and threw them into the door causing the glass of the door to shatter, causing damage to the rest of the door, and the planters to shatter,” the complaint says.

Moran was released on his own recognizance. He’s expected to appear in court Oct. 9.
