Depp: Human poop on my bed was last straw
What a crappy way to end a marriage.
Johnny Depp decided he’d had enough of his tumultuous relationship with fellow Hollywood star Amber Heard when his cleaner found a pile of “human feces” on the couple’s bed after a party, he told a London court Friday.
The stomach-turning discovery at their Los Angeles penthouse in April 2016 was the last straw in a marriage marked by shouting matches, physical altercations and drug abuse, Depp testified during the fourth day of his libel case against The Sun, a British tabloid that once called him a “wife beater.”
Heard, who’s also attending the trial and is expected to give evidence next week, has previously blamed the couple’s two Yorkshire terriers for defecating in their bed the night after her 30th birthday. Depp still doesn’t buy it, telling the Royal Courts of
Justice on Friday person who did it.
“It was not left by a 3- or 4-pound dog,” he said. “I was convinced that it was either Ms. Heard herself or one of her cohorts involved in leaving human feces on the bed.”
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star said he wanted nothing to do with her after that day.
“I thought that was an oddly fitting end to the relationship,” he told the court.
Depp, 57, and Heard, 34, officially ended their turbulent marriage a year later, in 2017, amid constant accusations of physical and emotional abuse against each other. They had met on the set of the 2011 comedy “The Rum Diary” before getting married in 2015.
The model and actress is not a target in the lawsuit, but The Sun’s defense of its 2018 “wife beater” article is based on 14 incidents in which she accused Depp of violence in multiple locations, including Los Angeles, Australia, Japan, it was a the Bahamas and on a private jet.
The “Sleepy Hollow” actor accuses the tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, of defaming his reputation and hurting his career by relying on Heard’s “sick” allegations.
Depp has called her claims a “hoax” and accused her of “building a dossier” against him as “an insurance policy” for after their relationship was over.
On Thursday, a lawyer for The Sun described a “threeday ordeal of assaults” in which Depp allegedly attacked his ex-spouse multiple times during a trip to Australia in 2015. The lawyer, Sasha Wass, said the actor smashed glass bottles in the couple’s rented house, screamed at the actress, threw her onto a table, hit her head against a refrigerator, broke a window, snorted cocaine and swigged Jack Daniels from the bottle.
Depp, sitting in the witness box Thursday, called those claims “pedestrian fiction,” accused Heard of cutting off his fingertip after throwing a vodka bottle at him, and said it was she who did most of the damage to the house, which was completely trashed after they left.
On Friday, Wass detailed another nasty fight that allegedly took place at the couple’s penthouse in December 2015. She said Depp was “in an uncontrollable rage” when he threw a decanter at Heard, slapped her, pulled her by the hair, threatened to kill her and head-butted her, causing two black eyes.
Depp acknowledged he might have head-butted her, but he said it was likely an accident and denied causing her any injuries. He blamed Heard for the violence and said he only tried to restrain her when she was “flailing and punching me.”
The actor also recalled telling Heard several times that their relationship was “a crime scene waiting to happen.”
