Trump golfs, tees off on Bam again

- BY DAVE GOLDINER

You might think President Trump would have better things to discuss on Twitter than the love of golf that he shares with Barack Obama, especially while the coronavirus pandemic is spreading out of control.

You’d be wrong.

The president couldn’t avoid weighing in about those less-than-weighty topics as the death toll from COVID-19 surges with no end in sight, defending his golfing passion Sunday as healthy exercise and claiming that he hits the links less than the former president did.

“Obama played more and much longer rounds, no problem,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“I play VERY fast, get a lot of work done on the golf course, and also get a “tiny” bit of exercise. Not bad!” Trump added.

In point of fact, Trump has spent about twice as many days golfing than Obama. And contrary to his “no problem” claim, Trump himself stridently criticized Obama for golfing during his time in the White House.

Critics quickly posted charts detailing Trump’s frequent trips to his own golf resorts and other vacation properties.

Left unresolved was why the commander-in-chief feels it is necessary to compare himself with his popular predecessor on a near-daily basis.

Trump’s obsession has continued even as he struggles to get a grip on the pandemic that is raging across the nation.

Coronavirus cases have soared to new records in the past week, and the death toll has also started to turn higher again. Even Republican states where governors once parroted Trump’s claims that the virus was under control are now openly considering new economic shutdown moves.
