TikTok to Trump: Bring it on.

A top TikTok official told users on Saturday that the popular video-sharing app is “not planning on going anywhere” after President Trump threatened to ban the Chineseowned company over alleged national security concerns.

“We’ve heard your outpouring of support and we want to say thank you. We’re not planning on going anywhere,” U.S. General Manager Vanessa Pappas said in a minute-long video posted on Twitter.

“When it comes to safety and security, we’re building the safest app because we know it’s the right thing to do,” Pappas continued. “We appreciate the support, we’re here for the long run, and continue to share your voice here — and let’s stand for TikTok.”

Trump said on Friday that he will start making moves to outlaw the social media platform, owned by ByteDance, over censorship and national security concerns because of its Chinese ownership.

“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” the president said on Air Force One during a flight from Florida.

The president also said he could employ emergency economic powers or an executive order to carry out the ban, adding, “I have that authority … It’s going to be signed tomorrow.”

The comments came after reports that the administration planned to order ByteDance to sell the company, and that Microsoft was in talks to acquire the app.

The U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment had launched a national security review of ByteDance’s $1 billion acquisition of U.S. social media app Musical.ly, which later became TikTok.

“TikTok is a home for creators and artists to express themselves, their ideas, and connect with people across different backgrounds and we are so proud of all the various communities that call TikTok their home,” she said.

“I want to say thank you to the millions of Americans who use TikTok every day bringing their creativity and joy into our daily lives.”
