Al’s Amazin’ pitch for J.Lo, A-Rod

- BY SHANT SHAHRIGIAN

Rev. Al Sharpton is going to bat for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, urging Major League Baseball owners to support the sale of the Mets to the superstar couple.

“The decision on who should earn the right to buy one of New York’s most treasured cultural institutions — the Mets — represents a significant opportunity for Major League Baseball to take a strong public stand in favor of racial equity by ensuring the team’s new ownership are people of color,” Sharpton wrote in a letter he planned to send Wednesday.

Calling the sale “an opportunity that cannot be missed at this point in history,” he continued, “Of the different groups bidding for the team, only one is by minorities: the bid from Alexander Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez — two true-blue New Yorkers, both with deep roots in our communities.”

The letter comes as the final stage of bidding for the Mets is expected to conclude at the end of the month.

J.Lo and A-Rod (above) have reportedly made one of three offers to buy the longsuffering Mets, the others being from hedge fund tycoon Steve Cohen and a group headed by the managing partners of the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers.

Once the Wilpons, the current owners of the Mets, select an offer, owners of the other MLB teams have to approve it.

Sharpton said there’s no one better than former Yankees champ Rodriguez, who was born in Washington Heights, and Grammy-Award winner Lopez, who’s famously from the Bronx.
