4th motorcycle fatality in 3 days of tragedy

A Queens man was thrown from his motorcycle and killed when his bike clipped a rear wheel of a car early Monday — the fourth motorcycle fatality in three days, authoritie­s said. Carlos Guzman, 37, was riding his 2005 Harley west on 73rd Ave. at 224th St. about 12:10 a.m. when a 50-year-old woman driving a 2019 Toyota 4Runner tried to make a turn onto 73rd Ave., cops said. Guzman’s bike hit the 4Runner’s rear left tire, and he was tossed onto the roadway, suffering severe head and chest trauma, cops said. Medics rushed him to Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he died. The driver ,of 4Runner stayed at the scene; there were no immediate charges. Guzman’s devastated family was too distraught to comment Monday.

As of Saturday, four people have been killed in motorcycle accidents. On Saturday, Matthew Hester, died after he slammed his bike into a police cruiser that had stopped to help a disabled car on the Belt Parkway in Ozone Park. On Saturday in Astoria, two motorcycle­s collided at the intersecti­on of 31st St. and 36th Ave. One of the riders, 65-year-old Stylianos Berios, died in the crash.

And early Sunday, a 54year-old motorcycli­st died after sideswipin­g a 2008 Pontiac on the Henry Hudson Parkway in the Bronx. The weekend’s toll comes as the city grapples with a 42% increase in motorcycle deaths since the beginning of the year — 27 deaths as of Friday compared with 19 in the same period in 2019.
